The U.S. Dept. of Justice has decided to allow the use of the FBI’s Anti-Piracy Warning Seal on all copyrighted materials, whether registered or not. Previously use of the seal was limited to the software and entertainment industry. I highly doubt we’ll this popping up to often in regards to digital images.
Are digital images and the infringement of them now becoming a “criminal violation”? It would appear so with this change, which gives the FBI the authority to investigate and enforce U.S. Intellectual Property Laws..
Naturally anyone wishing to use the seal must abide by certain conditions, part of which is including the “Authorized Warning language:
“The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of a copyrighted work is illegal. Criminal copyright infringement, including infringement without monetary gain, is investigated by the FBI and is punishable by fines and federal imprisonment.”
